Yonkers Trot winner adds NJSS tally

Freehold, NJ — Green Day, who won the $644,770 Yonkers Trot last week, scored a wire-to-wire victory in a $26,200 New Jersey Sires Stakes for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Friday (August 31) at Freehold Raceway.

Green Day, driven by Cat Manzi and trained by Jim Raymer, covered the mile in 1:56.2. He paid $2.80, $2.40. There was no show wagering in the 11th race co-feature. Year In Review ($2.80), a son of Self Possessed, was 5-1/2 lengths back in second. It was 6-3/4 lengths to the gelded son of Dream Vacation, Princetonian, who had a winning streak snapped at two.

Green Day, a $6,000 yearling purchase for Raymer’s Trillium Racing Stable of New Holland, Pa., improved his record to nine wins, one second and two thirds from 16 starts this year for 2007 earnings of nearly $570,000.

In the ninth race, the $26,800 first division, Altered States ($4.80, $3.60, $3.20) drew off to a 4-3/4 length victory over Muscles Yankee colt Hulk Logan ($2.80, $2.10) in 1:57.1. It was 5-1/4 lengths to Gladhand ($2.20), a gelded son of Yankee Glide, who finished third after two straight wins in NJSS action.

Altered States, driven by Jeff Gregory and trained by Morgan McInnis, has now finished first or second in seven of 13 starts this year. The son of Yankee Glide races for the Delaware-based ownership of Stephen Anderson and Suzanne Hunsberger.

The $85,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes Final for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings will take place on September 14 at Freehold.
