Northfield, OH – You Rock, driven by Brian Zendt, won the $94,500 first division of the Miller Lite Cleveland Classic for three-year-old pacing colts in 1:53 Saturday night at Northfield Park, grinding out an impressive win on the outside for driver Brian Zendt. The second $94,500 split went to Marchand, who took control just before the quarter and held off a furious charge from Basil Hanover to match You Rock’s winning time, with Dave Palone in the bike.
You Rock, trained by Bill Zendt, the driver’s father, was on the outside early as Sharky Osborne posted fractions of 27, 55.3 and 1:24.2. He took the lead in the stretch and held off favored Up Front Brad by a head to get the win for his owners, Bill Zendt, Robert Huntsinger and James Webb, Jr, of Pennsylvania. The win was his fifth of the year and he paid $12.20.
Marchand, who ironically was originally named Palone Hanover, was a 4-5 favorite and paid $3.80. He posted fractions of 26.4, after being parked to the quarter, 55.1 and 1:23.4 enroute to the 1:53 win. Basil Hanover was a neck back in second and longshot Finnegan Hanover finished third.
