Campbellville, ON — Zorgwijk Kingpin captured the fastest of three Ontario Sires Stakes Gold eliminations for 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters on Sunday night (Aug. 23) at Mohawk Racetrack. Grumpy Jake and Text Me also emerged victorious in their respective splits.

Text Me turned in a solid first-over effort to capture the first elimination for driver Randy Waples in 1:58.1. The son of Kadabra-Dial Nile was able to wear down the pacesetter, Pointe To Pointe, and then hold off an onrushing Arriba Amigo at the finish with Pointe To Pointe salvaging the show spot after winning the most recent Gold Final at Flamboro Downs.

Zorgwijk Kingpin scored in 1:57.1 for driver Jason Brewer.

It was the first win in six career starts for Text Me who is owned by trainer Bob McIntosh along with the C S X Stables and Dave Boyle. He returned $8.00 to win while boosting his seasonal earnings to just over C$53,000.

Grumpy Jake also used off-the-pace tactics for driver Jack Moiseyev to upset in the second elimination in 1:58.1. The son of Striking Sahbra-Elegance Angus was able to get the better of War King Ton and Talented John while returning a whopping $71.00 to win.

The C$30,000 yearling purchase from last Fall’s Forest City Sale is now one for three in his young career for trainer Mike Guitard and the Haryott Stables. The win vaulted him past C$23,000 in seasonal purse earnings.

In the final elimination, Zorgwijk Kingpin delivered as the favorite with a dominant first-over win in 1:57.1 for driver Jason Brewer. The chestnut son of Southwind Lustre-Zorgwijk Amarillis easily bested Reach Higher with Sombrero Hall landing the show spot.
