Aldrich, Sowers triple up at Monticello

Monticello, NY — Two weeks into the resumed meeting at Monticello Raceway, it seems that everyone is getting back into a groove — particularly drivers Bruce Aldrich Jr. and McGwire Sowers, who notched three wins apiece on the Thursday (Oct. 1) program.

Aldrich won the first three races on the card, teaming up with Lucky Leonard ($14.00, 1:59.1), Noble Woody ($4.90, 1:57.3) and Zone Blitz ($2.90, 1:56.3). Sowers responded with his own triple, prevailing with Ideal Candidate ($2.80, 1:57.1) and My Last Chance ($5.40, 1:55.4) before winning the last race of the day with Coach Zuzeek ($2.60, 1:57).

Greg Merton also drove two winners on the afternoon.

On the training side of the board, Bo Sowers enjoyed a triple and Laura Perino had a double.

With two weeks having passed since the reopening, McGwire Sowers has had 10 trips to the winner’s circle, with Aldrich right behind him with seven. Aldrich sits atop the driving leaderboard for the year with 67, with Brandon Parker in second with 49. Bo Sowers leads trainers with 39 wins at Monticello this year.

Live racing at Monticello resumes Monday (Oct. 5) with a 12:50 p.m. post time.
