Another world mark at Pocono Downs

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Two world records were established at The Downs at Pocono on consecutive race dates. The latest of the 2004 harness racing season occurred Tuesday night (August 3) when Bloodstock’s Sam came across the finish line with the timer reading 1:55.

The 1:55 clocking equaled a world mark for a four-year-old gelding trotter on a five-eighths-mile track. T Cody, driven by David Miller, was clocked in 1:55 in a trotting race at Scioto Downs in Columbus, Ohio on August 7, 1997.

Ridin The Rails (Sean Bier) took the six horse field to the opening panel in :272 and to the half in :563. Bloodstock’s Sam sat fourth for the first half of the mile before George Napolitano, Jr. made his move going down the backside. The four-year-old Sierra Kosmos gelding quickly overcame Source Of Luck coming down the stretch after the latter tripped the timer in 1:26.

Chris Oakes of Wilkes-Barre claimed Bloodstock’s Sam for $15,000 at the Northeastern Pennsylvania racetrack on June 12. The Sierra Kosmos trotter, out of Bloodstock’s Bowl by Super Bowl, has won three of six starts for Oakes and Napolitano, Jr.

On Sunday night (August 1) Dave Palone drove Jus’ Chilln Out to a world record 1:503 mile for a three-year-old pacing filly on a five-eighths-mile track in a division of the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes.
