Banca bottoms out GSY rivals at Big M

East Rutherford, NJ — The first race on Friday (June 7) at The Meadowlands featured 10 pacers that went to post in the weekly GSY Series race.

There were several horses that left hard from the gate as the wings closed, and as they barrelled into the first turn, Monica Banca and CC Big Boy Sam took control and never looked back. They went a fast opening quarter of :27 and increased their lead to three lengths as they turned for home. That is when the closers came calling, but after the outer flow stalled, Matt Zuccarello, holding the lines of Jackamino, and Joe Lee, aboard Just N Berlander, went three-deep as they entered the long stretch but were unable to collar the long-time leader.

Banca and CC Big Boy Sam held on to a length victory in a fast 1:52.1, with Lee nosing out Zuccarello for second. The victorious 9-year-old Nobleland Sam gelding is owned and trained by Rick Dane Jr.

The GSY Series returns next week for its regular weekly event that will go for a purse of $11,000. First post is slated for 7:15 p.m.
