Hammer wins four at Dayton Fair

Dayton, PA — The Dayton Fairgrounds hosted Pennsylvania Sire Stake and Quaker Stake action on Wednesday, and Roger Hammer led the way with four driving wins.

Dave Brickell started the day with the hot hand, winning the day’s first two races, a pair of PASS 2-year-old filly trotting events. First, Brickell catch-drove AJ Peyton Rose, a pacing-bred filly by London Pinjarra, to a 2:08.2 win for owner/trainer Joe Torok. Rosey Chick (SJ’s Caviar), out of Brickell’s own stable, won the second division for owners Jack and Sharon Claypoole. The winning time was 2:07.2.

Four groups of freshman state-bred filly pacers filled the entry box, and the first three divisions were all won by horses trained and driven by Roger Hammer. Anxiety Hanover, also owned by Hammer, won the first split in 2:04.1. The filly is a daughter of The Panderosa. The second division was won by My Gal Mykenna, owned by Hammer along with Nevin Gilbert. The Real Artist filly paced her mile in 2:03.3. Wicked Native, owned by Vicki Fair, was the third division winner, pacing in 2:05.2.

The final group was led across the wire by Budgirls Hanover, owned by Randy Ringer and trained by JC Miller. Jordon Miller drove the daughter of No Pan Intended, as she paced the mile in 2:04.1.

Two divisions of freshman colt trotters were up next, and Hammer tallied his fourth winning drive of the afternoon, guiding Fortissimo to the win in 2:09.4 for trainer Joyce Lineweaver. The Wonder Dancer filly is owned by Eileen Lineweaver. The second group was led by the Tagliabue gelding Trevor R, who won in 2:13.3 for driver Bryce Truitt. Cindy Truitt trains, and co-owns with husband Bryce.

Brickell earned his third win of the day in the first 2-year-old colt pace, as DVC Givemeattitude won in 2:02.2. The Arturo gelding is owned and trained by Brickell as well. McDickerson, a McArdle gelding owned by Cliff and Randy Neal, won the second split in 2:05.2. Eric Neal drove the winner. Eric’s father, Randy Neal, won the third colt pacing division with He’s A Thriller, a son of Allamerican Native. The colt covered the mile in 2:05.2.

The day ended with a pair of Quaker Stakes for PA-owned or PA-sired horses. The trotting division was won by Anastasia Paul, a son of Trainforthefuture. Owned and trained by Joe Ubran, the winner trotted in 2:09.4 for driver William Daugherty.
