First Call wins Vernon Downs feature

Vernon, NY – First Call (Homer Hochstetler) takes the $7,000 featured trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 26).

First Call ($6.80) took over the lead just before hitting the first quarter :27.1 as If Not Why Not (Howard Parker) settled for the pocket trip and would watch First Call hit the half in :56.2.  Only Passing Thru (Jimmy Whittemore) would make the first move going first-over from third.  First Call hit the three-quarter mark in 1:25.1.

First Call, who is trained by Homer Hochstetler for owners Connie Hochstetler, Robert Budding and Allen Schwartz, hit the stretch with a lot in the tank.  She would hold off a late charge by second place finisher Winning Princess (Jennifer Lappe) to win in a lifetime best of 1:53.4.  If Not Why Not was third.

First Call is a 4-year-old mare by Credit Winner.  It was her third win this season.  She now owns 11 career victories.

Howard Parker drove four winners on the night.  He finished first with Sapient Hanover ($6.20), Golden Dynamite ($10.00), Jennifer ($6.80), and Spoiler Alert ($5.50).  Roman Lopez was trainer-driver for three winners.  He got his wins with Sexy Wow ($2.30), Life On The Road ($6.40), Gettin Serious ($6.70).

Vernon Downs returns to live racing with an 11 race card on Saturday (July 27).  Post time is 6:10 p.m.
