Middletown, NY – It was a record day for the Goshen Yearling Sale on Monday (Sept. 13) as a crowd of nearly 1,500 who attended in person were joined by many more bidding online to collectively drive sales averages up in every category. At the end of the day, all sale numbers were the highest ever realized in Middletown since the inception of the GYS.

A total of 122 yearlings changed hands, generating sales in excess of $2.1 million. That is a 24% increase over the previous sales record of $1.6 million set in 2019. The overall average individual sale price was $17,284, which is 14% higher than the previous 2019 record. By category, 32 pacing colts averaged $19,723 each, 42 pacing fillies averaged $15,414 each, 18 trotting colts averaged $17,167 each and 23 trotting fillies averaged $13,821 each.

Cameo Hills Farm had a big day as a breeder, but also as an agent as they managed the sale topper (Hip #114) Malta Magic (Huntsville-JK Black Beauty). The pacing filly was purchased for $67,000 by Hunter Oakes of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.

Cameo Hills also bred the next two highest priced yearlings in pacing colt (Hip #79) Bet On Buter (Huntsville-Billmar Scooter) who was purchased by Rocknroll Stable of Shorewood, Illinois and pacing filly (Hip #112) Back To Hicksville (Huntsville-I Am A Snob) who went home with Brian Doyle of Dundas, Ontario. Each sold for $62,000.

Cameo Hills was once again the top consignor of the sale, selling 16 yearlings from their farm for a total of $603,008 (an average of $37,688) and another 20 yearlings as an agent for $419,500 (an average of $20,975).

Leatherstocking Equine had the second highest average sale price of $17,357 for their seven yearling consignment led by their top seller, trotting colt (Hip #32) Spending Crazy (Crazy Wow-Seven Eleven) who went to Joseph Hess of New Milford, New Jersey for $30,000.

Winbak Farms sent 42 yearlings to the sale arena and yielded $481,110 in sales (an average of $11,455). Their top price-getters were trotting colt (Hip #84) Night Star (Met’s Hall-Celestial Angel) who was purchased by Douglas Overhiser of Shorewood, Illinois for $32,000 and pacing colt (Hip #76) Solar Bolt (Bolt The Duer-Beach Bonnet) who sold for $28,000 to David Hamm of Dagsboro, Delaware.

“It was great to get back to a normal sale after last year and I think everyone felt the same way. Everything ran very smoothly without any problems and the live and remote bidders came out in force and the numbers clearly reflected that,” said Mark Ford. “This sale just keeps getting better each year and that’s because of all our great consignors and customers. We are already planning for the 2022 edition of this sale to be even bigger and better.”
