Horse with EHV at The Meadows

Columbus, OH — The Equine Disease Communication Center website posted a Disease Oubreak Alert regarding Equine Herpes Virus at The Meadows on Wednesday (Jan. 24).
Following is the Alert:
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture was notified today that a Standardbred horse at The Meadows Racetrack in Washington, Pa., had showed clinical signs consistent with Equine Herpes Virus Myeloencephalopathy. The horse has tested positive for EHV-1 and is currently under medical treatment.
Two barns at The Meadows are currently under quarantine due to a horse that moved earlier from the original exposed barn. This horse causing the second barn’s movement restriction is not showing clinical signs. A daily monitoring period for clinical signs in the remaining exposed, asymptomatic horses is ongoing.

A Standardbred horse at The Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington County tested positive Wednesday (Jan. 24) for equine herpes virus, or EHV-1, making it the second confirmed case in the state this month. Last week, veterinarians with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine confirmed a case at the school’s New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Chester County.

The Meadows Racetrack in Washington, Pa. updated the status of live racing there announcing that it will now be suspended through and including February 6, 2018 according to The Meadows Vice President and General Manager Allie Evangelista.

The Meadows Racetrack in Washington, Pa. announced the extension of the suspension of live racing through Friday (Feb. 23) according to The Meadows Vice President and General Manager Allie Evangelista. The track previously announced the suspension would last through Feb. 6.
