Illini Classic Sale set for Labor Day

Mount Sterling, IL — Sale managers Ed Teefey and Carl Becker have announced that 194 yearlings have been cataloged for the 22nd annual Illini Classic Yearling Sale, to be held Monday (Sept. 7) at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.

The auction will take place in the Horse Show Arena, located immediately west of the Coliseum, with opening announcements at 11 a.m. (CDT) and the first horse in the ring shortly thereafter. The auction will also offer online bidding for those participating remotely.

“We look forward to welcoming consignors and buyers on Labor Day, and we are grateful that government and health officials have worked with us in developing protocols for a safe and successful sale,” said Teefey. “We have also enhanced our technological capabilities through an arrangement with Proxibid to provide bidding opportunities online for those unable to attend.”

The Illini Classic has cataloged 96 colts, 86 fillies, and 12 geldings for its largest offering since 2014. Some 54 sires are represented, including offspring of stallions based in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Ontario. There are six stallions with first-crop yearlings in the catalog.

Pedigrees and further information are available at www.illiniclassic.com. Printed copies of the catalog are scheduled for release on Friday (Aug. 21).
