James MacFadyen, 83, dies

Columbus, OH — James MacFadyen, 83, of Farmersville, Ohio, died June 17, 2019 in Dayton.

He was born in Arkadelphia, Ark., on Feb. 16, 1936, to Donald and Mildred (nee Baker). He was a Korean Army veteran serving from 1954 to 1956.

Mr MacFadyen received his undergraduate degree in education from the University of Florida where he was on their golf team and he received his master’s degree from Miami University.

He was a school teacher most of his life, starting at Gratis High School, then Twin Valley South High School and he retired after 21 years from the Dayton Public School system.

He was an avid golfer, winning many matches through the years, including the Dayton City Amateur Golf Association Tournament at the DP&L Course in 1961 and he won the golf tournament at the Senior Golf Classic played at the Highland Lake Golf Club, Richmond, Ind., in 1995.

He was also passionate about horse racing, especially harness racing. He was a member of the United States Trotting Association and the #0888 American Legion in Delaware, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn; children, Debbie, Susan (Alastair) Mitchell, Becky (Mike) Dunn, and David (Regina); grandchildren, Lindsey Mabry, Brannon Dunn, Cameron Dunn, Alastair Mitchell, Callum Mitchell, Miranda Mitchell, Declan, and Molly; great-granddaughter, Ellie Mabry; sister, Katy Friedlander; brother, David; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Beth Sharrow.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (June 21) at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, Ohio, with Rev. Ron Dafler officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday (June 20) from 5-8 p.m.
