John W. Cross, 78, dies

Columbus, OH — John Williams Cross, 78, of Delaware, Ohio, died Aug. 11, 2019.

He was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Coral Gables, Fla., to Catherine (Boring) and William Cross. He graduated from Willis High School in 1959, joined the Army National Guard where he served for 25 years and was Company Commander for Company B. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1976 with his bachelor’s degree in accounting and worked for the Galbraith Real Estate Co. for 20 years.

Mr. Cross was active with The Little Brown Jug where he ran the staking office.

He was a member of the Christian Harness Horsemen’s Association, American Legion of Delaware and Hiram Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Cross was a gentle and loving parent and grandparent who was active in all the children’s activities. He was an Ecumenical Youth Group Counselor and was an official for the YMCA swim meets. He was past PTO President for Carlisle and Boardman Schools, Boy Scout Master, Leader and Cub Scout Leader.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (they were married 57 years); children, Randy, Beth and Catie; grandchildren, Michael, James Alex and Carson; sister, Patricia Turnbull; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Nancy Hoar.

Visitation will be Monday (Aug. 19) from 5-8 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Graveside services will be held Tuesday (Aug. 20) at 11 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery with full military honors by The U.S. Army and The Delaware Co. Veteran’s Association.
