Hawkinsville, GA — Under the new management of Jim Valiante, the Lawrence Bennett Training Center is the home to more than 145 horses for the winter training season.

On Jan. 31, the red clay oval, along with the help of local racing officials and starter Clarence Martin, hosted a half dozen qualifiers for the Dan Ater Stable in preparation for opening weekend at the new Miami Valley Raceway.

Dates have been set for the annual Hawkinsville Harness Racing Festival. Local business and horse owner Sandy Grinstead has been busy as can be planning and preparing for the April 4 and 5 harness festival. There will be over a dozen qualifiers and matinee races held on April 5 before all stables ship back north for the approaching racing season.
