Campbellville, ON — Top driver Mark MacDonald was released from the hospital on Monday afternoon (May 30) following a spill that occurred in the last race at Mohawk on Thursday, May 26.
MacDonald and fellow driver Jody Jamieson were involved in the accident. The accident resulted in MacDonald suffering a dislocated shoulder, a broken nose and his jaw broken in four places. Jamieson managed to walk away from the accident with no serious injuries.
MacDonald’s brother, Curtis, offered an update on his brother’s condition.
“He was released earlier today,” Curtis said. “He’s in really good spirits which is also nice to see.”
MacDonald underwent surgery on Friday night to set his broken jaw using a plate. Doctors also determined that MacDonald’s shoulder would not require surgery.
“His arm and wrist are not broken; at first we weren’t sure because it was so swollen but after a bunch of x-rays it turned out it wasn’t,” explained Curtis.
Although doctors and nurses believed that MacDonald would be hospitalized for several more days, he has made rapid progress in a short time and was released Monday afternoon.
