Campo Bahia, a 4-year old Swedish trotter, driven by Conrad Lugauer, was a very impressive winner of The Kings Trophy raced at the Aby Track in Gothenburg Saturday afternoon (May 11), the first stake race for 4-year-olds in Sweden in 2019.  The winner’s share of the purse was $120,000.

Campo Bahia, who raced for the ninth time, won the 1-5/16 mile event in a new Swedish record of 1.53.3f (mile rate). Attraversiamo with Erik Adielsson finished 1-1/2 lengths back.

After the win, Lugauer indicated that Campo Bahia will be pointed to the Prix d’Amerique.

Campo Bahia is bred and trained by German Conrad Lugauer, who moved to Sweden more than 10 years ago and now runs a very successful stable at Jägersro.

Campo Bahia is a mix between new and old bloodlines, American and French blood.

His sire is Muscle Hill, while his dam is Austrian-bred Americandream sired by French stallion, Extreme Dream. His granddam, American Goal (born 1995) is sired by Armbro Goal and out of Wunschelrute (born 1978).  His pedigree can be traced back to 1875 to a mare, Pick, sired by Ericsson (1856).

The Queens Trophy at Aby was won by a rank outsider, Activated, driven by Carl Johan Jepsen and trained by Fredrik Wallin.

Activated, who paid 62-1, won in 1.55.1f (mile rate) and earned $120.000. He beat the heavy favorite (1-10), Conrads Rödluva with ôrjan Kihlström.

Activated was bred by Menhammar Stud (Jocose – Marelle), who both also are Memhammar-bred.  The maternal line here goes back to the 1700s.
