New Jersey bill A1045/S2856 needs your help

Manalapan, NJ — Both the New Jersey Senate and Assembly passed legislation (A1045/S2856), sponsored by Assembly members Ron Dancer, Eric Houghtaling, and Joann Downey and Senators Vin Gopal and Steve Oroho, to exempt horse boarding, maintenance and related services from the state sales tax.

Horse boarding, maintenance and servicing businesses are required to register as a seller with the Division of Taxation in the Department of Treasury. Under current law, they are being taxed as “space for storage.” The bill relieves these businesses and services from sales tax obligations.

The bill is now with Governor Phil Murphy for consideration. The more New Jersey residents that contact the Governor and ask him to sign the bill the better. Please click on this link. The form contains a “message” box where you can tell Governor Murphy how important this tax exemption is to our industry and ask for him to sign it. Please contact the governor before Monday (Jan. 20) or the bill will be put into pocket veto and the process will have to start over.
