No NA Cup for Fashion Delight

Campbellville, ON — When the entries became available for this year’s C$1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup, one horse who was expected to be entered was Fashion Delight. However, according to trainer Jim Campbell, he decided not to enter the six-time winner due to a minor injury.

Fashion Delight won the $289,925 Empire Breeders Classic last month in a time of 1:50.2.

“He suffered an abscess in his front right foot after his victory in the Empire Breeders at Tioga Downs,” the veteran trainer said. “It’s an unfortunate situation, but we had to do what’s best for the horse and leave him home.”

Fashion Delight was regarded as a top contender for this year’s edition after earning $510,555 last year with a pair of third place finishes in both the $600,000 Breeders Crown and $709,000 Governor’s Cup.

Fresh off capturing the $289,925 Empire Breeders Classic at Tioga Downs in 1:50.2 in his most recent start, Fashion Delight’s next major test will be the $1 million Meadowlands Pace.

“My goal is to have him ready for the Pace,” Campbell offered. “It was a tough pill to swallow not coming to Canada, but it’s a long season and there are still lots of money to be made.”

The son of Bettor’s Delight-B J’s Sunshine has lifetime earnings of $658,642 for Fashion Farms of New Hope, Pa.
