Grove City, OH — The Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association is awarding eight scholarships, totaling $15,000, to college and post graduate students for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The OHHA Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors and students enrolled in degree or certificate programs. Graduate students are eligible if they are enrolled in a harness racing-specific graduate or professional level program. The scholarships are based on academic merit and financial need and must be used towards the cost and expenses directly related to coursework and a degree being pursued at a college or university. In addition, the applicant or their parent must be an OHHA member.

This year’s recipients are Case Bateson, Lyndsay Hagemeyer, Kaitlin Hartman, Colin Newberry, Peyton Poling, Brett Sugg, Brooke Sugg, and Meadow Twaddle.

Case Bateson of Rudolph, Ohio, is the son of Steve and Terri Bateson and is a graduate of Bowling Green High School. He is enrolled to begin classes at the Ohio State University ATI-Wooster this fall, pursuing a degree in Equine Production and Management. Bateson’s father Steve is the current president of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association.

Lyndsay Hagemeyer of Clarksville, Ohio, is currently studying veterinary medicine at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and is scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2021. She is the daughter of Scott and Cindy Hagemeyer. Her parents are the owner/operators of Hagemeyer Farms, a breeding farm in Clarksville.

Kaitlin Hartman of Tarlton, Ohio, is a 2018 graduate of Logan Elm High School and is currently enrolled at Ohio University in Athens studying Music Education with the goal to teach high school choir at a low-income school. She is the daughter of William and Tami Hartman.

Matthew Newberry of Beavercreek, Ohio, is a graduate of Beavercreek High School and will be attending Sinclair Community College this fall with the goal of becoming a mechanical engineer. He was the recipient of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association Terry Holton Youth Award in 2019. Newberry is the son of Matthew and Kelly Newberry.

Payton Poling of Lebanon, Ohio, is a graduate of Lebanon High School and is currently attending Sinclair Community College studying nursing. She is the daughter of Eddie and Jenny Poling.

Brett Sugg of Deshler, Ohio, is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and will be attending the University of Toledo in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science. He is the son of Duke and Lisa Sugg.

Sugg’s sister, Brooke, is also a recipient of an OHHA scholarship. She is currently enrolled at Bowling Green State University studying Dietetics pursuing a career as a Registered Dietician.

Meadow Twaddle of Canonsburg, Pa., is a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and will attend Washington and Jefferson College studying to become a Physician Assistant. She is the daughter of Timothy and Sophia Twaddle.
