PA Commission awards state’s final racino license

by John Pawlak, the U.S. Trotting Association

Columbus, OH — The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission has conditionally awarded the state’s final harness racing racino license to American Harness Tracks to operate Valley View Downs, to be built in Lawrence County, Pa.

The Commission took action at a special meeting yesterday morning.

The first condition requires American Harness Tracks to obtain a license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to operate slot machines and table games and the second requires that the firm provide evidence — within 60 days — that it has obtained at least $150 million.

Centaur Gaming had originally been granted the license in 2007, but never completed its financing package and was not granted a gaming license. Centaur filed for bankruptcy and auctioned the racing license — and American Harness Tracks was high bidder.
