Wilkes-Barre, PA — His full sister Phaetosive was an impressive winner in a qualifier on Saturday (May 4), and now the Explosive Matter–Phaeton gelding Explosivebreakaway has shown he may be ready for an outstanding year in 2019.
Explosivebreakaway won his first trip behind the gate this year in 1:56.1 at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono Wednesday morning (May 8). The 3-year-old came a pair of :28.2 quarters in the back half to close from sixth and earn the triumph.
Last year Explosivebreakaway posted a 5-3-2-0 record, winning his last start, a Liberty Bell division, in 1:59. He took his mark of 1:57.4 in an overnight event at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
Trainer Erv Miller teamed with driver Atlee Bender to showcase an impressive pair of debuting 3-year-olds in Code On The Beach (a Somebeachsomewhere gelding) and Cub Fan (a So Surreal gelding), both of whom crossed the wire first in 1:53.3.
