Resolve is a dominant winner in John Cashman Memorial

East Rutherford, NJ — Resolve (Ake Svanstedt) won the $303,050 John Cashman Memorial for open trotters by 4-1/4 lengths in a time of 2:04.2 for the mile and an eighth race on Saturday (Aug. 5) at The Meadowlands.

Resolve is owned by Hans Enggren and trained by Svanstedt. The victory was the third in eight starts for the year, with earnings of $335,995 for the year and $2,544,429 for the career of the 6-year-old son of Muscle Hill-Anikawiesahalee.
The 12-horse field was led to the first quarter by Resolve, who hit the marker in :26.3, with Crazy Wow (Yannick Gingras) behind them. Those two led the field to the :55.1 half when Marion Marauder (Scott Zeron) came up to challenge on the outside, just before the 1:22.3 three-quarters, around the final turn, and took the second spot away from Crazy Wow. The mile time was 1:50.1. Resolve trotted away from the field in the homestretch for the win.
Resolve returned $7.00 to win. Marion Marauder was second and Lookslikeachpndale (Daniel Dube) was third.
“(Marion Marauder) was the horse to beat before the race,” said Svanstedt. “But Resolve was good enough.”
Asked if Resolve was as good as former Svanstedt trainee and world champion Sebastian K, Svanstedt said, “Not yet, It’s hard to beat (1):49.”
