Richard Wawrin, 79, dies

Columbus, OH — Richard Wawrin, 79, of Wrightstown, N.J., beloved husband of Betsy, died peacefully at home on June 12, 2021, after a brief illness.

He will be sadly missed.

He was born in Paterson, N.J., in January 1942.

He owned several businesses and operated R & J Contractors with his brother, Jack, who preceded him in death nine years ago. After that, he and Betsy owned and operated Busy B Ceramics in North Jersey for 18 years, selling that in 1981 and starting Busy B Stables in Randolph, N.J., moving to New Egypt in 1996 and later to Wrightstown.

They raced at several tracks on the east coast, winning their final race at The Meadowlands with Nabber Again, completing a life long dream of Betsy’s.

They both enjoyed their many horses and training farms for the past 40 years.

He is survived by his soulmate, Betsy, who he was happily married to for 58 years; children, Terry and Rick; eight grandchildren (one preceded him in death at 8 years old); two sisters; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; one aunt; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He requested no viewing or funeral services and has been cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deborah Hospital.
