Ryder Steck, 18, dies

Columbus, OH — Ryder W. “Storm Boy” Steck, 18, died Aug. 2, 2014, at Grant Hospital from injuries sustained in a July 27 single automobile accident.

Fitting to his character, he gave the gift of life through organ donation, by his own elected choice. In death, he truly understood where he was going and gave of his pure heart. It’s beating as his memory will live on, “Ryders On The Storm.”

Born June 19, 1996, in Westerville, Ohio, he will forever be a precious son of longtime trainer/driver Ronnie and Kila (Shultz) Steck of Marengo. He was a member of the 2015 Senior Class of Highland High School in Sparta.

Expressed best by his parents, “He lived a good life, happy, healthy, just too short.” They are most proud that Ryder was a Christian and true friend.

He will forever be cherished by his parents; sister, Parker; brother, Ranger; grandfather, Bob; aunts and uncles, Joe and DellAnn Kuhn, Ernie and Darla Gaskin, Scott and Melody George, Keith and Jona Baer, Chad and Amber Hankins, Randy and Michele Steck, Bryan and Rhonda Damron; 17 cousins; eight second cousins; and countless friends. He was proceeded in death by grandparents, Mardell (Wilcox) Shultz, Johnnie Shultz, and Terry (Snow) Steck.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 10), at the Highland High School Gymnasium, 1300 State Route 314, Marengo, OH 43334, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday (Aug. 11). Burial will follow in Marengo Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 Ohio 61, Sunbury.
