Shehan wins five; Forever Jesse impresses in Kentucky

Mayfield, KY — Kentucky racing kicked off the 2019 season at The Purchase District Fair in Mayfield, Ky., on Thursday evening (June 6). With 14 races on tap for 2- and 3-year-old Kentucky-eligible trotters and pacers, there was plenty of talent on display.

Driver Tyler Shehan picked up his first of five wins on the evening in the first race, an event for 3-year-old pacing colts. He drove Six Day Wars to an easy 19-length win in 2:04. The son of Western Ideal is owned and trained by Donald Brock.

Shehan’s next win came in the 3-year-old colt trot. Forever Jesse’s win was never in doubt, as he led the majority of the race by 20 to 30 lengths before stopping the clock in an impressive time of 2:03.3. In his first start of 2019, the son of Jailhouse Jesse picked up his first lifetime win for owners Dudley Thompson, David Arboe and Tracye Huber and trainer Phillip Cotton.

Shehan kept the winning going in a 3-year-old filly pace, guiding McArdle filly Delight Kate to a 2:03 victory, the fastest time of the day, for owner and trainer Pasko Vucinaj.

In the 2-year-old filly pace, Shehan drove Vintage Candy to a three-length win in 2:10. The freshman daughter of Vintage Master is owned by Dudley Thompson, David Arboe and trainer Phillip Cotton.

His final win came in the 2-year-old colt trot. Marna Shehan trainee Narnia held off all his rivals to win in 2:16. Narnia, a son of Dejarmbro, is owned by Mark Wright, Amanda Stephens and Karen Shehan.
