Shezza GNP N among Friday Yonkers distaff winners

Yonkers, NY — With no Fillies and Mares Open on the schedule, other high-condition contests for the ladies led Yonkers Raceway’s Friday night (June 7) festivities.

Shezza GNP N (#2) dug in to prevail in a top-level distaff pace on Friday at Yonkers Raceway. Mike Lizzi photo.

A $23,000 event saw a pocketed Shezza GNP N (Jordan Stratton, $5.90) just prevail over a hard-charging, 71-1 I Wish You Well (Pat Lachance) by a head in 1:54.4. Blush Hanover (George Brennan), off at 41-1, rallied for third, while pace-setting Bellatricks (Brent Holland) faded to fourth after controlling fractions of :26.2, :55.2 and 1:24.2 — though beaten just three-quarters of a length.

Betabcool N (Jason Bartlett) picked off the final pay envelope, while 6-5 choice American Empress N (Mark MacDonald) was hung for her troubles and backpedaled to last.

For second choice Shezza GNP N, a 6-year-old daughter of Art Major owned and trained by Peter Tritton, it was her third win in 13 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $368.50, the triple returned $2,681 and the superfecta paid $22,930.

Yonkers’ mutuel windows open at 11 a.m. Saturday (June 8) in advance of the 151st Belmont Stakes and Belmont Park’s first post of 11:35 a.m.
