Simpson to compete in Hall of Fame drivers race

Freehold, NJ — Due to a schedule conflict for driver Dave Palone, John Simpson, Jr. will join the field to compete in the 13th annual Mr. and Mrs. Elbridge Gerry Hall of Fame Trot at Goshen Historic Track on Sunday (July 3).

Simpson, 68, was the youngest driver to ever win the Hambletonian when he captured that classic race with Timothy T in 1970. The groom on Timothy T was Simpson’s younger brother, Jim, who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 3. Both sons will now join their late father, John Simpson, Sr., in the Hall.

Simpson also trained and drove Classical Way, one of the top trotting mares of all time, along with winning the Kentucky Futurity, third leg of the Trotting Triple Crown, four times.

Post time for the races at Goshen Historic Track (www.goshenhistorictrack.com) on Sunday is 1 p.m. After the race that day, Simpson will sign photos and greet fans, along with fellow drivers Jim Doherty, Bill O’Donnell, Ray Remmen, Cat Manzi, Herve Filion, Mike Lachance and Wally Hennessey.
