Stakes records fall in Maryland Sires Stakes at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — The Maryland Sires Stakes program has continued to grow by leaps and bounds over the past couple of seasons, as for the second straight week, stakes and track records fell on one of the nation’s fastest three turn ovals.

On Saturday (May 4), HS Judy Jetson, a 3-year old filly trotter by Great George Two, smoked the stonedust in 1:54.4 which set a new stakes record and broke the track record for sophomore filly trotters which had stood since 2007. Joseph Carroll trains and drove the filly for owner-breeder Cary Grady.

Fire’n Woodshed set a stakes mark for a second week in a row and tied the track record for 3-year old trotting geldings in 1:54.1 for driver Roger Plante. The altered son of Lockkeeper is now a perfect four-for-four and will head the field for the $70,000 final on Preakness Day. Kerry Welty trains for owner-breeder Brian Emerson.

Sleek N Majestic upset stakes record holder Mary’s A Keeper in 1:57, last quarter in :27.4 for Eddie Davis Jr. Brian Martin owns the sophomore trotting filly by Charlie De Vie and Andrew Stafford conditions.

Perhaps the most impressive win came from Trump That Rusty, who broke at the start for Davis Jr., yet rallied to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:54.1. Dylan Davis trains and co-owns the 3-year-old pacing gelding with Jeff Billings. The son of Rusty’s For Real, out of Alberts Drifter N, won for the third time this year.

Gaareat Gaazoo reeled in leader Anaximenes in the final turn and sprinted off to a 7-3/4 length victory for driver Frank Milby and owner-trainer Richard Hans in a new lifetime best, 1:57.4. It was the first win of the year for the 3-year-old trotting son of Googoo Gaagaa.

Two-year-old champion Berzerker has started the year in fine fashion, winning for a second straight week in 1:53.1. Tony Morgan drives the sophomore pacing son of Rusty’s For Real for Brandon, Clifton and Wanda Murray.

KJ Dr Michelle took the first split for 3-year old filly pacers as she came first over and inherited the lead when Cashmeoutsiderusty went off stride in the final turn. Jared Moyer guided the Rusty’s All In distaff to the win for Scott Woogen and trainer Arlene Cameron in 1:57.

Anna B and Frank Milby came first over and gobbled up the field by two lengths in 1:54.1 for owner-trainer Roger Hans who also bred the sophomore pacing daughter of Cam’s Rocket.

In the two featured events of the night, Fashion Smile and Jonathan Roberts won the $11,000 Open Trot, leading all the way in 1:55.1 for William De Lodovico and trainer Megan Tolson.

In the $11,000 Open Pace, Sams Triple Crown came first over and tracked down pacesetter Star Messenger and Always The Sun in 1:50.1 for John Wagner who always has this horse in great shape when he races at Rosecroft. Jerry Nock owns and trains the son of Art Official who picked up his 20th career win in 72 starts.
