Traders to go for a double at Vincennes

Italian-bred but French-owned and trained Traders will go for a double in the world’s richest under-saddle race, the Prix de Cornulier, Sunday afternoon (Jan. 20) at Vincennes.

Last year, Traders and Yoann Lebourgeois won the Cornulier in a new race record, 1.54.2 (mile rate). Though he was beaten to second place a fortnight ago, he is the likely favorite.

A field of 15 trotters is entered in the Prix de Cornulier, raced over 1-11/16 miles and with a total purse of €650,000 ($740,000).

Three horses seem to be outstanding in the race.

Besides Traders, it is Bilibili (Alexandre Abrivard) and Briac Dark (Matthieu Abrivard).

Bilibili finished third last year and won the Prix du Calvados a fortnight ago, followed by Traders and Briac Dark.

In that race, the trio all raced with four shoes; in Sunday’s race, they will all race without shoes.

It was the first under-saddle race for Briac Dark in the Calvados, and it would be to no surprise if he will win tomorrow.
