15-year-old goes for seventh win

by Steve Wolf, Director of Marketing, Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL — Tarport Mark, the old man of the field at age 15, seeks his seventh win of the season at Pompano Park on Wednesday, heading the fifth race trot, a division of the Florida Amateur Driving Club.

With a victory, Tarport Mark would be tied with Regal Visitor as the winningest horse at Pompano Park in 2004.

Tarport Mark starts from the rail for driver Dein Spriggs and is the 2-1 favorite after winning last week in 2:001. The gelded son of Arndon is trained by Luanna Beeson and is owned by Spriggs’ wife, Joyce, of Jupiter, Florida.

Their main rival will be another return winner, Don’t Tell Dana, from post five at odds of 3-1. One of only two mares in the eight horse field, Don’t Tell Dana won by two open lengths last week in a lifetime best mile of 2:004. Bill Bigler will drive her for the first time. The six-year-old mare by Inquirer is owned and trained by Paul Benoit of Vero Beach, Florida.

Two stakes winning Florida-bred sons of Racing Glory from last season are matched up in the first race pace as Flight Of Glory (post one) and Stylish Glory (post two) each look for their first victory of 2004.

Flight Of Glory is the 5-2 favorite for trainer/driver Mike Deters and makes his three-year-old debut off an impressive 1:573 qualifying win last week, while Stylish Glory is making his second start for owner/trainer/driver Del MacTavish, Jr. of De Leon Springs, Florida and last year won $28,423 with a record of 1:554.
