2011 Standardbred Ontario Resident Mare enrollment form now available

from the Ontario Racing Commission

Toronto, ON — The Ontario Resident Mare Enrollment form to enroll Standardbred mares for the 2011 foaling year was released today by the Ontario Racing Commission.

The form is being made available before publication of the 2011 Program criteria to allow mare owners to enroll mares at least 180 days prior to January 1, 2011, the earliest possible foaling date for 2011 foals.

The forms are available on the ORC website at www.ontarioracingcommission.ca or by contacting Standardbred Canada, which administers the program on behalf of the ORC.

The Mare Enrollment form and all fees must be received by Standardbred Canada before the mare foals in 2011. The date upon which the form is received by Standardbred Canada will be recorded as the first day of the mare’s Ontario residency period. Mare owners are reminded that they must apply annually to acquire Ontario Resident Mare status for mares in foal.

To qualify as an Ontario Resident Mare, a mare must be resident in the Province of Ontario at the time of enrollment and remain resident in the Province of Ontario for 180 consecutive days surrounding the date of foaling in Ontario. Offspring of Ontario Resident Mares will be eligible for Ontario Bred status. Ontario Bred horses will be eligible for lucrative racing opportunities in Ontario. Ontario Bred Rewards are paid to the person recognized as holding the rights to the reward, usually the person who enrolls and maintains the mare during her residency period.

The 2010 Program criteria and all forms are currently available on the Ontario Racing Commission website. Program criteria and all other Program forms required for 2011 will be available for access in late 2010 from the Featured Showcase section on the home page of the Ontario Racing Commission website at www.ontarioracingcommission.ca.
