Pompano Beach, FL — The $60,000 Everglade and Sandpiper Series for Florida-bred three-year-old trotters and pacers gets underway on Wednesday at Pompano Park with three divisions of competition.

The month long series feature three weeks of preliminary competition with the top nine point earners returning Wednesday, November 24 for the $10,000 finals.

The top contender in the Sandpiper Pacing Series is Amethyst, a filly who is going for her seventh straight win. She was the only horse to make a clean sweep in the Sunshine Stakes Series, winning all five of her divisions and the $12,000 final for driver Wally Hennessey.

Trained by Rod Lorenzo and co-owned with the Keisers Oberman Stable of Boca Raton, Amethyst starts from post three in the filly division, which is a non-wagering race at 6:50 p.m.

In the colt and gelding division of the Sandpiper Series, Paper Exchange has been tabbed as the horse to beat and starts from post one for driver/trainer Bruce Ranger. Paper Exchange is going for his fourth straight win and last time out he won his $12,000 Sunshine Stakes Final in 1:55.4. Fred Monteleone of Pompano Beach owns Paper Exchange.

The top trotter in the Everglade Series is Gordon T, who just won the $12,000 Sunshine Stakes Final in his last start with a 1:59.2 lifetime mark. He wired the field in that race, winning by one length for his third triumph of the year for owner/trainer David Myrick of Pompano Beach. Gordon T starts from post seven for driver Bruce Ranger in the first race.

Gordon T will be taking on recent winners Wyatt (post six), Dream On Avery (post five), Cracker Sue (post three) and Sudden Speed (post one).
