71st season at Harrington Raceway opens Monday

Harrington, DE — Live harness racing will commence Monday (April 24) for the 71st consecutive season at Harrington Raceway with a 10-race program starting at 5 p.m.

A revised wagering format will include superfectas in the even-numbered races with Pick-4 wagering beginning in races three and seven. In the event there is more than 10 races, the Pick-4 will cover the last four races.

Fans will be treated to a customary hat giveaway (while supplies last) at 4:45 p.m. in the grandstand lobby. There will also be $1.50 hot dogs and $1 live racing programs in celebration of opening day.

The track’s marquee race of the season, the Bobby Quillen Memorial, featuring top older pacers, will go postward on Sept. 18. The 2016 edition was won by a local superstar in 2015 Dan Patch Horse of the Year Wiggle It Jiggleit.

Top horsemen over the half-mile racetrack from 2016 will return to action, such as reigning leading driver Victor Kirby and top trainer Joe Hundertpfund Jr. Both have been having success out of town with Kirby winning races at the Meadowlands and Pocono, while Hundertpfund sports an amazing win percentage at the Meadowlands over the winter and early spring.

Racing will be conducted on a Monday through Thursday schedule until mid-June when the schedule will shift to Monday through Wednesday before a hiatus following the June 28 program.
