Cammie’s Lady turns 30

Cammies Lady, an outstanding race mare during the 1990s, turns 30 Jan. 1, the official birthday for all Standardbreds.

The Cam Fella daughter raced for seven years, and earned a total of $765,108 from 92 lifetime starts with a summary of 19-20-17. Her lifetime record of 1:51.2 was taken in one of her final starts at Garden State Park.

She was a multiple stakes winner including several New Jersey Sire Stakes, a Matron Final and the Overbid (twice). As a two-year-old, she finished second in Breeders Crown final to $1.6 million winner Immortality. One year later she was once again second to Immortality in the Breeders Crown final, losing by a mere head. She competed against and more than held her own with many great distaff pacers including Immortality, Ellamony, Towners Image, Shady Daisy, Swing Back, Oohs N Aahs and Mystical Maddie.

Bred by Armstrong Bros. of Inglewood, Ontario, Cammies Lady is owned by M and L Delaware LLC (Rosalind Paul and her son Doug) who retired her to Leslie Curran’s Blairwood Farms of New Jersey when her racing career was over.

Cammies Lady was the fourth and most successful foal from Armbro Bramble, a winner of $351,000 during her racing career. Upon her retirement to the broodmare ranks, Cammies Lady produced six foals, the most successful of which on the racetrack was her first, an Artsplace son named Mr Cammander who earned $109,000.

Her final foal arrived in 2008 and she has been enjoying her well-earned retirement since that time.
