Rocktavious wins Maryland Open

Ft. Washington, MD — Rocktavious ($23.60) got a perfect pocket trip from 20-year-old Luke Hanners and scooted up the passing lane to edge multi-time Rosecroft Horse of the Meet Romantic Interest to win the $12,000 Maryland Open Sunday night (Oct. 25) at Rosecroft.

On a track labeled ‘good,’ Hanners left well from post five and ducked in behind Roamantic Interest who scorched the opening quarter in :26.1. It didn’t take long for Bret Brittingham to go on the attack first over with Transitioning Joy, who dueled with Frank Milby and Romantic Interest through fractions of :55.3 and :1:23.1. All the while, Hanners just bided his time and got past a stubborn leader in the final strides to win by a head. Rocktavious won for the 35th time in his career for owner Bib Roberts and trainer Megan Roberts-Tolson in a final time of 1:51.3.

It was part of a terrific card for bettors, as after heavy favorites scored in five of the first seven races, only one favorite won the rest of the night on the 15-race card.

Allan Davis won four races on the night and brought incredible value as Talking Blues, a 9-2 morning line choice, paid $39.40 in the finale. He also won with Bluejeansnredwings ($8.00), Cole On The Beach ($6.40) and Boot Leg ($31.60). Two of the wins came for trainer John Hollingsworth.

Eddie Davis Jr. also blew up the board, rallying from last to get Half Cut home, paying $57. Davis also visited the muddy winner’s circle with True Cut, paying $6.40.

Corey Callahan won with a pair of favorites, Waikiki Beach A ($3.00) and Costello ($5.00).

Russell Foster won with Rockin Jukebox ($4.40) on the betting card and and with juvenile filly pacer Wowie Zowie in the non-betting early Maryland Sires Stakes eliminations. It gave trainer Megan Foster a double on the night.

John Wagner won with Harveys All In ($5.60), scoring a 2-year old pacing colt win via a 1:57 mile in the only sires stakes race on the betting card. Eddie Davis Jr. won with Madisonsallin in a 2-year old filly pace in 1:56.2, giving trainer Arlene Cameron a double.

Former longtime Rosecroft driving dash champion Jim Morand paid a successful visit with the Les Givens trained Funnyfunnyriddle who trotted a mile in 2:02.1 while Callahan won with Pride Of Windswept for his brother Shaun who conditions the Charlie De Vie trotting filly who was impressive in 2:00.1 on a track labeled sloppy.

Wednesday night features four Maryland Sires Stakes $45,000 finals for sophomore pacers and trotters with a first race post of 6:55 p.m.
