Mankat scorches Pocono oval

Wilkes-Barre, PA — After working to clear into a fast early pace, Mankat lowered his mark to 1:50.4 in a $15,300 co-featured pace on a sweltering Tuesday afternoon (June 29) at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Mankat, was parked through most of the :26.3 first quarter by Horse, but after using Mankat to clear for control, driver Jim Pantaleano was able to back the half off to :55.4. The 4-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere was forced to speed up again as favored Tell Them Lou charged steadily up past the 1:22.4 three-quarters, but the chalk had to settle for second, a length behind the Christen Pantaleano trainee, who has now won two of his last three for owner Matthew Morrison.

The distaff pacers were topped by the Always B Miki filly Incaseyoudidntknow, returning to Pocono after two third-place finishes in Sire Stakes action to win in 1:53.2. Marcus Miller kept the filly third along the pylons, and when the pocket sitter pulled out to challenge, Incaseyoudidntknow stormed up the Pocono Pike to finish 1-1/4 lengths better than pacesetter Roll On Mama. The fleet filly earned her eighth win in 13 career starts for trainer Les Givens and the partnership of Jim Magno and Joe Fonte.

A feature section for trotters saw the only 3-year-old in the field, the Yankee Glide filly Miss Vet Hanover, get parked to the three-eighths before making the top before holding off the comeback attempt of Can’t Say No in 1:54.3 for driver Tyler Buter, trainer John Butenschoen, and the lessee Harmony Oaks Racing Stable Inc.
