Harmon wins STAC race at Tioga

Nichols, NY – The third race on the card Saturday night at Tioga Downs featured six amateur trotters and drivers going to post in a Southern Tier Amateur Club event with a $5,000 purse.

As the gate sprung open, the anticipated early tussle between the two favorites, Railee Workable (Rob Harmon) and Keystone Orion (Matt Zuccarello) didn’t materialize when Keystone Orion made a break just after the gates folded up.

With no challengers in site, the post-time favorite Railee Workable carved out sensible fractions of :29.4 and 1:01.1 to the half and that made all the difference in the end.  Harmon ended up winning by 2-1/2 lengths at the finish in a mile timed in 2:00.3.

Grinding first over to finish second was Lodi Bank Robber (Stacey Mclenaghan) and after the early miscue, Zuccarello and Keystone Orion closed from last to finish third.

It was Harmon’s first start behind the 9-year old Basil gelding out of the mare Railee Super.  He made his only start a winning one as the gelding was claimed out of the race for $10,000.  He is trained and owned by Harmon Racing Stable LLC from Pennsylvania.

The STAC amateurs will be back next Saturday night (July 10) at Tioga Downs with the first post scheduled to go at 6:15 p.m.
