Maryland Sire Stake preliminaries conclude at Ocean Downs

Berlin, MD — The Maryland Sire Stake preliminaries concluded on Wednesday (Sept. 1) at Ocean Downs.

A short field of freshman trotting fillies went to post as an early non-wagering event. With miscues by all three early in the strong winds, Charlie’s Song (Charlie De Vie) secured the lead in the gate-to-wire victory with You’ll Never Be Me (Cam’s Rocket) second and Lady Eleanor (Charlie De Vie) third.

Roger Plante Jr. received the driving assignment from trainer Steve LeBlanc for owners LeBlanc Racing, Glenn Dyke, Count De Money Stable and William Lutz Jr. Dyke is also the breeder.

Despite the remnants of Hurricane Ida threatening, the pacing colts and geldings lined up in the second. Reinsman John Wagner sent Anthonys All In (Rusty’s All In) from the five hole, finally getting the lead at the quarter pole in :30.3, and from there the pair controlled every fraction in the 2:04.3 mile. Rapid Pulse (Quik Pulse Mindale) crossed in the place position.

Pam Wagner is the owner-breeder of Anthonys All In.

The final stakes of the summer season conclude on Wednesday (Sept. 8) with four $70,000 Maryland Sire Stake finals for the 2-year-olds.
