Washington, PA — Wild Wild Western let Done Well do the heavy lifting on the lead, then edged by him in the shadow of the wire to capture Saturday’s (Sept. 4) $17,600 Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Done Well was hammered down to 1-5 in the wagering and looked very much the part, throwing down a swift 1:22 three-quarters. But he couldn’t shake the pocket-sitting Wild Wild Western, who moved wide for the drive for Mike Wilder and edged the favorite by a head in a career-best 1:49.3. Windsong Leo finished third.

Norm Parker trains Wild Wild Western, a 5-year-old son of Western Ideal-Caila Fra who now boasts a career bankroll of $337,407, for Jacobs Creek Racing, Andrew Altobelli and John Deters.

Aaron Merriman and Chris Shaw each piloted three winners on the 13-race card.

The Meadows is dark the week of Sept. 6 for track maintenance. Live racing resumes Sept. 14 when The Meadows reintroduces Tuesday afternoons to its live racing schedule.
