Newcomer Dziengiel wins GSY Open Amateur Pace at Monticello

Monticello, NY – Under gray skies and 62-degree temperatures, seven amateur pacers and drivers took to the Monticello half-mile oval and fall-like conditions for a GSY Open Amateur Pace.

As the wings of the starting car folded, several horses left hard for the lead.  Prophet Blue Chip (David Dziengiel) left hard to protect his rail position and was able to stave off an early charge by GSY Club President Dave Yarock driving his speedster Sammy B Happy.

Yarock was able to squeeze into a hole in front of Pay Later (Robert Krivelin) and this trio sped through a quarter in :28.2.  The field remained this way until the top of the stretch and that is where Dziengiel, driving the 1-9 favorite took off and won by 8-1/2 lengths in 1:56.3!.

This was Dziengiel’s first start in the GSY races this year and he made it a winning one and in style.  The 6-year-old gelding is out of the mare Weeping Wanabe and was sired by Rock N Roll Heaven.  He is owned by New York owners Robert Sholes, Edward Davis, and Dziengiel himself.

The amateur pacers will be back up Monticello next Wednesday (Oct. 13) afternoon.  The first post is scheduled for 12:10 p.m.
