Ginger Tree Skyr wins easily at Dover Downs

Dover, DE — Ginger Tree Skyr did not disappoint as the even-money favorite in Tuesday’s (Dec. 14) $18,000 Winners Over/Select Trot at Dover Downs, coasting to a 1:54.2 win on a mild night.

After Quiksilvr Bluechip led a :27.4 first quarter, Corey Callahan aggressively brushed Ginger Tree Skyr from third to control middle fractions of :56.4 and 1:25.2 before drawing off in the stretch to win by three lengths. Blue Cupertino (Mike Cole) saved ground and finished second; Remarkable De Vie (Pat Berry) finished third after racing first-over and offering mild pressure up the backstretch.

Trainer Nick Callahan co-owns Ginger Tree Skyr, a son of Explosive Matter who paid $4.00 to win, with Yorwollahan Racing Team and Gregory Godbout. Corey Callahan drove four winners on the card.

Soho Burning Love A highlights Wednesday’s (Dec. 15) featured Mares Open Handicap Pace. On Thursday (Dec. 16), there are four $100,000 finals of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund series, and Jack’s Legend N seeks his third consecutive victory in the $25,000 Open Handicap Pace. Dover Downs will then be dark from Dec. 17-26. Nightly post time is 4:30 p.m.
