All Speed Rising upsets at the Spa

Saratoga Springs, NY — All Speed Rising ($25.60) posted an 11-1 upset in Tuesday’s (Dec. 14) $15,000 Fillies and Mares Open at Saratoga Casino Hotel, notching back-to-back wins at the Spa in the act.

After cruising through a fast first quarter of :27.2, driver Shawn Gray backed the 6-year-old All Speed Hanover mare down to a :58 half. All Speed Rising didn’t face much of a challenge before trying to open up around the final turn, but long shot The Fun Marshall tried to get to the leader in the stretch after sitting the pocket. Her chase proved futile, though, as All Speed Rising held on to win her first Open of the year in 1:55.2. The Fun Marshall (Alek Chartrand) finished second at 23-1, while Shecandance N (Jimmy Devaux) earned the show spot.

Andy Gardner, who trains All Speed Rising for George Tackley and Wendy Storrier, recorded three wins on the day and surged into second place in the Saratoga training standings with one week remaining in the 2021 season.

Live racing resumes on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 19), with first post time set for 12 noon.
