Team Pomp vs. The Best in two day challenge

Pompano Beach, FL — The stage has been set and the anxiety is high as four of the best drivers ever at Pompano Park take on four of the best in the world beginning Tuesday night (March 15) at the famed South Florida oval.

Team Pomp features Captain Wally Hennessey, David Miller, Peter Wrenn and Kevin Wallis against the visiting team with Yannick Gingras at the helm with his teammates being Dexter Dunn, Andrew McCarthy and James MacDonald.

The “home” team does have the statistical advantage in both wins and purse money earned but the visitors have the advantage in the “youth” department.

In reflecting on the competition, Hennessey said, “Yes, we have 175 years of combined experience and we have more wins and purse earnings, but we’ve had so much longer to do it. The visitors are all top notch horsemen and, to tell you the truth, I’m not so sure that the ‘home field’ advantage is any advantage at all.

“These guys go from track to track in those big stakes races and places that they rarely race and perform to the highest standards.

“All I can say is that it’s going to be one great competitive experience for all of us.”

The visitors team captain Gingras agreed, saying, “This is new territory for us all and it will be competitive, safe racing. We’re just happy to be in South Florida adding to the history of one great racetrack!”

Post time for the opening night of the two day event is 7:20 p.m. with the team competition encompassing races two, three, four and eight.

In the “better for the bettor” department, there will be a $15,000 guaranteed Pick-4 pool bolstered by an industry low 12 percent takeout. The Super Hi-5 finale also has a carryover of $60,392.
