Wilkes-Barre, PA — Newcomers captured all four of Sunday’s (March 20) $12,500 second-round preliminary divisions of the Game Of Claims trotting series at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Voss Volo, making his second start for trainer Bill Mullin, hustled to secure the pocket for driver Jim Morrill Jr. before then catching the front-stepping Buzz for a 2-1/2-length victory in 1:55.4, the fastest clocking of the quartet of winners.

Voss Volo remains with Mullin and owner Robert Becker, but two other divisional winners changed hands via the claiming box. R Herbie Blue Chip avoided trouble on the far turn and tallied in 1:56.2 for driver Matt Kakaley, while Willie B Worthy won in 1:56.4 tally with Tyler Buter. These two were among the eight participants who were claimed Sunday for a total of $140,000.

The other division winner, B Yoyo (Kakaley), was the longest priced of the quartet at 18-1, and his 1:56.4 victory gave trainer Clay Faurot Jr. his 999th training success.

Stonebridge Armour and Bang Bang Boinga captured the twin $17,000 events for class-climbing trotters, both riding the front end to victory. Meadows invader Stonebridge Armour was the faster of the two winners, taking a new mark of 1:55 for driver Jim Pantaleano, trainer J.L. Adams, and owner Martin Valentic. In the other division, the Explosive Matter gelding Bang Bang Boinga seated his opposition and held his advantage to the finish line, equaling his mark of 1:56. Matt Kakaley drove for trainer Joe Poliseno and owner Ellie Sarama.

Kakaley followed up his seven-bagger of Saturday with four more victories on Sunday’s twilight card, giving him 37 wins in the first 10 days of racing at Pocono this year.

Monday’s (March 21) card will feature the final preliminary round of the Game Of Claims Pacing Series for horses valued at both $10,000 and $7,500. Post time is 1:30 p.m.; program pages are available at the PHHA website.
