Temporal Hanover, Jiggy Jog S score Zweig victories at Vernon Downs

Vernon, NY — Hambletonian hopefuls were on display Saturday (July 8) at Vernon Downs in the Dr. Harry M. Zweig Memorial Finals.

In the $123,000 Final for 3-year-old fillies, Yanaba (Brian Sears) was able to clear Baptism (Ake Svanstedt) before the opening quarter in a brisk :26.4. Yanaba was able to get a :29.3 breather as the field was in straight alignment through the half in :56.2.

Cash Infusion (Yannick Gingras) was the first to pressure leader Yanaba, as Delilah Hanover (Todd McCarthy) rode second over cover through three-quarters in 1:25.3.

At the top of the stretch, Jiggy Jog S (Dexter Dunn) was pinned at the pylons, but in the final sixteenth of a mile, Dunn found a hole and drew off to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:52.3. Delilah Hanover was second, with Baptism finish third.

With the victory, Jiggy Jog S has now made $410,556; she has three wins in five starts this season for Owner Jorgen Sparredal Inc. of Delray Beach, Florida, and trainer Ake Svanstedt.

In the $310,000 Final for the 3-year-old trotting colts & geldings, Temporal Hanover got the perfect trip en-route to a 1:52.2 victory.

Fast As The Wind (Dunn) was quickest into stride, making the lead before entering the first turn. He led eventual winner Temporal Hanover to the first quarter in :26.2.

The field was in straight alignment to the half in :55.3, with Pretender (Andrew McCarthy) challenging the leaders at the five-eighths pole; as the field reached three-quarters in 1:24.2 Prentender and Fast As The Wind matched strides bracing for the challenge of Temporal Hanover who tipped out three-wide.

Through the stretch, Temporal Hanover responded to Sears urging, drawing off to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.2. Periculum (Mattias Melander) closed to be second with Pretender third.

Temporal Hanover has three victories in four starts this season as he preps for the 2022 Hambletonian at The Meadowlands. He has earned $452,666 for owners AMG Stable Inc, Kenneth Kjellgren, Rick Wahlstedt and the Heights Stable, Marcus Melander was the winning conditioner.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Friday (July 15) at 6:05 p.m.
