Tattoo Artist, Test Of Faith score in Scioto invitationals

Columbus, OH — Eldorado Scioto Downs hosted a pair of top-class $100,000 invitational paces on Friday (Aug. 19) and Tattoo Artist won the #Senditin Invitational for pacing males and 2021 Horse of the Year Test Of Faith scored in the Cleopatra Invitational for mares.

In the #Senditin Invitational, co-favorite Tattoo Artist ($6.20) went wire-to-wire from post eight, posting fractions of :25.4, :53.3 and 1:20.2 before stopping the clock in 1:48.4.

Dexter Dunn was in the bike for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. as the 5-year-old He’s Watching stallion scored by 1-3/4 lengths over Workin Ona Mystery (David Miller), with co-favored Charlie May (Brett Miller) checking in third.

It was the seventh win in 16 season’s starts for Tattoo Artist, lifting his 2022 earnings to $465,473 for owners Let It Ride Stables, Frank Cannon and Diamond Creek Racing.

One race later, 2021 Horse of the Year Test Of Faith overcame the trailing post position 10 and scored in 1:49 in the Cleopatra Invitational for pacing mares.

David Miller got the 4-year-old daughter of Art Major away fourth as Gia’s Surreal (Aaron Merriman) took the field to the opening quarter in :26.2. But Miller was out and firing with Test Of Faith and she grabbed the lead at the :54.2 half-mile marker and was never caught through subsequent fractions of 1:21.3 and 1:49.

Test Of Faith was a 3-1/4 length winner over Grace Hill (Dunn) with Gia’s Surreal ending up third.

Brett Pelling trains Test Of Faith for owners Melvin Segal, Kentuckiana Racing Stable and Eddie Gran. A winner of six of 11 this year, she has banked $436,242 in ’22 and went over the $2 million mark in lifetime purses.
