Gregory Garland Garnsey dies at 59

Columbus, OH – Gregory Garland Garnsey, the son of the late Hall of Famer Glen Garnsey, died unexpectedly on Sept. 5, 2022, at Oneida Healthcare Center in Oneida, N.Y. He was 59.
A resident of Blossvale, N.Y., Mr. Garnsey was born on Oct. 20, 1962, to the late Glen Garnsey and Ida Yvonne Truitt. He was especially fond of his late stepmother Paula Garnsey. He graduated from Pompano Beach High School and began his career as a harness horseman. He trained and drove many horses throughout his career, but the highlight was working with his father.
For four years, he was co-owner of Pepi’s Pizza in Vernon, N.Y. In the early 2000s he worked with his stepmother, Paula, selling real estate in Florida. He returned to New York and was employed by Nice N Easy as a Food Service Director.
He was formerly married to Janelle Mercurio and they were the parents of one son. He enjoyed the ponies, golfing, cooking, antiquing and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphin football teams.
Mr. Garnsey is survived by his son, Glen Garrett Garnsey; five sisters, Gail (Bert) Pulvere, Syracuse, N.Y.; Glenda Garnsey, Georgetown, Del.; Jodie (Dean) Swenson, Selbyville, Del.; Gina (Rolf) Sexauer, Dagsboro, Del. and Valerie Rigdon, Merritt Island, Fla., as well as several nieces and nephews. He had many friends throughout his life, especially Brian, Deanna, Danny and those at The Eclectic Chic.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Sept. 14) at 7 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home, 23 Front St, Vernon, N.Y.
