Columbus, OH — William Michael McLaughlin, 74, of Hampton, N.H., formerly of Nashua and Seabrook, died unexpectedly on Oct. 8, 2022, at the Exeter Hospital.

He was born in Nashua on Jan. 20, 1948, the only son of the late Francis and Eleanor (Reich) McLaughlin. He shared more than 41 years of marriage with the love of his life, Nora (Kimball).

Mr. McLaughlin was raised in Nashua. He graduated from Nashua High with the Class of 1966 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from UNH in 1970.

He worked as the general manager for a number of racetracks and casinos during his life. In 1977, he met Nora at the Seabrook Greyhound Park; they were married four years later and settled in Seabrook.

While in Seabrook, he served his community as a member of the Seabrook Planning Board and also served on the Winnacunnet School Board representing Seabrook.

Mr. McLaughlin’s career took him all across the country before returning to New Hampshire in 2015. Since returning to New Hampshire, he was instrumental in the sale of the former Seabrook Greyhound Park acquired by the current ownership. He continued to work for “The Brook” as a consultant up until the time of his death.

Mr. McLaughlin was an all-around great guy with a fantastic sense of humor and loads of friends. His personality simply attracted others and he made friends quite easily.

He was a lifelong fan of New England sports. Later he developed a passion for college athletics at Michigan State University where his son Michael graduated and the University of Tennessee where his granddaughter Madeline is currently a student. He also loved to follow grandson Andrew’s participation in hockey at the high school level in Londonderry.

In addition to his beloved Nora, Mr. McLaughlin leaves his son, Michael; grandchildren, Madeline Downer and Andrew Downer; sister, Susan Dolan; son-in-law, Mike Downer; and sisters-in-law, Melissa Kimball and Jessica Kimball. He was preceded in death by his son, William F.; and daughter, Jennifer Corbin Downer.

Visiting hours will be from 1-3 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 17) in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home – Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. Services will follow the visitation starting at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
