FIRST SUB-1:50 MILE OF THE YEAR
Risenshine Seaside, a stakes winner last year for the Ron Burke Stable, paced the fastest mile of the year at The Meadows on Saturday, turning in a 1:49.2 effort in a mid-level conditioned pace. It was just the second start of the 4-year-old season for the son of Downbytheseaside. Driver Dave Palone left the gate from post nine with Risenshine Seaside, who is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Phillip Collura. After getting parked to the quarter in :27.1, Palone just kept his horse rolling, getting to the half in :54.3 and the three-quarters in 1:21.2, then paced home in :28. It was a career best, and was the fastest mile of the season at The Meadows by four-fifths of a second.
