Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA – Here is Meadows Monday Memo:

ALL AFTERNOON SCHEDULE THIS WEEK

Hollywood Casino at The Meadows will race four cards this week, Wednesday through Saturday, all at 12:45 p.m. This is the only week this schedule will be in place. The September 16 card will be the final Saturday program of the year.

TRACK MAINTENANCE UPCOMING

After the Saturday (September 16) card, The Meadows will close the track for regularly scheduled track maintenance. During the shutdown the casino and racebook will remain open as usual. We will return with qualifying races on Tuesday (Sept. 26), followed by live pari-mutuel racing on Wednesday (Sept. 27). When we return, we will begin our fall schedule, racing Wednesday through Friday afternoons at 12:45.

WALTERS PICKING UP DRIVES

20-year-old Justin Walters has started to gain momentum in his driving career at The Meadows. After earning his “A” license earlier this year, Walters averaged four drives per card over the past four cards. He started out driving mostly for his father, trainer Steve Walters, but has now been picking up catch drives. Walters has won 13 races in 165 local drives this year.

TOP-10 BATTLE

Among trainers, a good battle is shaping up to be in the top-10 for the season in wins. There is a three-day tie among trainers Carl Cocciolone, Dean Collins and Dana Kahrig with 23 victories each. The top-nine are, Ron Burke (186), followed by Dirk Simpson (82), Brandon Presto (75), Scott Betts (70), Tim Twaddle (52), Randy Bendis (45), Norm Parker (39), Stacey Currie (36), and Justin Pirillo (33).
